HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

 CARTILAGENOUS JOINT:

It is a type of joint where the bones are slightly movable the opposed surfaces are covered with the hyaline cartilage and they are connected by the bands of white fibrous ligaments or by flattened disc of fibrous cartilage
following are the examples of cartilagenous joints :
1. The joint between the manubrium sterni and the body of the sternum
2. pubic joint by which two pubic bones are joined together in the pelvis
3. intervertebral joints with fibrocartilage in between every two vertebrae of the vertebral column
4. temporary joints present between the diaphysis and epiphysis of long bones

Synovial joint::

It is a freely movable joint characteristics of a synovial joint are :
1. the apposed bony surfaces are covered with an articular cartilage however these cartilages are not attached to each other
2. there is a cavity around the joint called synovial cavity
3. the synovial cavity is surrounded by a ligament or capsule
4. synovial membrane covers all around the cavity
5. the cavity is filled with a fluid called synovial fluid which lubricates the joint
