HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

 MUSCLES OF THE ABDOMEN::

These muscles form the wall of the abdomen they are attached to the thoracic cage above and the pelvic bones below 
1. The obliqus abdominis externus muscle originates from the lower ribs and extends downwards to the median line 
2. The obliqus abdominis internus muscle is situated under the obliqus abdominis extrenus and gets origin from lower ribs both the oblique muscles of abdomen flex and rotate the vertebral column tense the abdominal wall and compress the abdominal viscera 
3. The transversus abdominis muscle is situated under the obliqus abdominis internus muscle this muscle runs transversely it supports and compresses the abdominal viscera 
4. The rectus abdominis muscle is situated bilaterally on the median line and extends from the cartilages of the fifth rib to the seventh rib above and to the pubis of pelvis one on each side they stand out when one bends down it flexes the lumbar viscera of  the abdomen supports it 
5. The quadratus lumborum muscle is situated between the twelth rib and the iliac crest of the pelvis these muscle are paired and they lie on either side supporting the back of the abdomen
