HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

 Muscles of the thigh ::

1. the quadriceps femoris is powerful muscle and includes the rectus femoris the rectus femoris has its origin on the anterior inferior iliac spine these muscles extend the leg 
2. The sartorius muscle is the longest muscle in the human body it has its origin on the anterior superior iliac spine it extends obliquely downward and inward hand gets inserted in the tibial bone this muscle takes part in flexion of the hip and knee joint 
3. The other muscles include biceps femoris semi tendinosus adducter longus brevis and magnus these muscles are involved in flexion and lateral rotation of the leg

muscles of the leg::

There are four muscles on anterior side of the leg of which the tibials anterior is the most important they raise the foot by flexion at the ankle joint there are muscles on the back of the leg the superficial and deep ones The big superficial muscles on the back of the leg are the gastrocnemius and soleus muscle the deep ones are on the back of the tibia and the popliteus is attached to upper part of the tibia the other three run downwards and are attached to the foot the popliteus acts on the knee joint and the others on the ankle joint 

muscles of the foot::

Foot muscles include fasciae fascia lata fasciae of the shank etc there are superficial and deep sets of muscles the lumbrecals interiossei and others these muscles are involved in the movement of the toes
