VARIOUS TYPES OF SYNOVIAL JOINTS ARE::
1.Ball and socket joint: in this type of joint rounded part of one bone fits into the cavity of another bone and thus helps in movement in all the directions here a ball is moving in a cupshaped socket cavity e.g shoulder joint and hip joint
2. hinge joint : in this joint movement is possible in only one direction here the rounded surface is received into another bone e.g the elbow joint and knee joint
3. condyloid joint: it resembles hinge joint but helps in movement in two planes say lateral as well as backward and forward movement e.g wrist joint and ankle joint
4. Gliding joint :: in this type of joint the apposed surfaces of the bones are flat and glide on each other e.g carpal joint of the hand and tarsal joint of the foot
5. Saddle joint :: this type of joint is found between the trapezium and the first metacarpal bone of the thumb this permits greater freedom of movement of the thumb in the hand
6. pivot joint :: this is the only joint which helps in rotation e.g movement of the head here the ring like atlas rotates round the peg shaped process of the axis movement of the radius over ulna of the forearm is another example of pivot joint
