HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

 muscles of the pelvis::

1. The illo psoas muscle originates in two parts from the lumbar vertebrae it flexes the hip joint and rotates the thigh outwards 
2. The gluteus maximum or the piriformis muscle has its origin on the anterior surface of the sacrum it extends abducts and rotates the thigh laterally it most powerful action is to raise the trunk after stooping by drawing the pelvis backward 
3. The gluteus medius and gluteus minimus muscles have their origin on the lateral surface of the ilium and insertion of the femur these muscles adduct and medaially rotate the thigh 
4. The other muscles include obturator externus quadratus femoris etc which rotate the thigh laterally
