HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

 MUSCLES OF MASTICATION::

These muscles are attached to the skull and face bones the contraction of these muscles control the movements of the lower jaw and are involved in chewing there are four masticator muscles :the masseter the temporalis the pterygoideus lateralis and medialis one on each side 
1.the masseter muscle is situated between the zygomatic process and the external surface of the corner of the lower jaw 
2.the temporalis muscle is situated in the temporal part it raises the lower jaw and posterior bundles 
3. the pterygoideus lateralis muscle is situated in the intra temporal fossa
