BLOOD ::

Blood is a specialized connective tissue flowing in a closed system of vessels it is red opaque viscous and slightly alkaline in nature and fulfils all the vital needs of life such as respiration nutrition and excretion it is red in colour because of the preponderance of the floating red blood corpuscles there are also white blood cells and platelets in the blood if these formed elements called cells are removed from the blood one finds the plasma which is a pale cream coloured fluid full of dissolved substances blood is alkaline in nature with a pH of 7.36-7.41 its specific gravity varies from 1.055-1.060 thus it is slightly heavier than water it has a viscosity of its own it has the property to coagulate inside and outside the body under certain conditions 
    The total quantity of blood in the body (blood volume ) on an average is one eleventh of the total weight of the body thus in the body of an average sized man 70 kg of weight the blood volume approximates 6 litres
