HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

Gastric acid secretion ::

        The secretion of gastric juice is promptly stimulated by histamine the HCI Formation is increased and repeated injection of histamine produce lesions or ulceration on the gastric and duodenal mucosa salivary and pancreatic secretions are also increased under the influence of histamine the secretions in the gastrointestind tract perhaps occur by direct action on the glandular secretary cells in spite of the effects seen on the gastric secretion histamine fails to stimulate HCI acid production in a condition known as achlorhydria which is characterized by absence of HCI acid from the gastric juice

    Histamine headache::

    The intradermal injection of histamine causes itching Histamine injection produces the throbbing headache known as histaminic cephalgia it is accompanied by palpable temporal pulsations and transient increase in cerebrospinal fluid pressure headach is due to stretching of sensory nerve endings around cranial nerves endings around cranial nerves it is therefore suggested that histamine release might be the factor in the development of typical headache with the intense pain as experienced by the patients it is curable by administration of antihistamines
