Triple response in skin::
Local application of histamine on skin produces a typical response called triple response this is characterized by three signs flush flare and wheal flush is the redness at the site of application this is because of the hyperaemia in the vicinity of 1.5 cm of flush there occurs vasodilation and this forms the flare this vasodilatation occurs as a result of reflex action Around one and half cm of flare there occurs permeation of fluid elating the surface named as wheal
Central Nervous system ::
Histamine is involved in various actions mediated through CNS such as supression on food intake increase in water intake antidiuresis emesis hypothermia and arousal response
Uses of histamine::
Histamine as such has no therapeutic use however it is used for the dignosis like gastric acid secretion leprosy and pheochromocytoma for gastric acid secretion histamine is given to assess achlorhydria triple response induced by histamine is absent in patients suffering from leprosy if histamine is given to patients with pheochromocytoma there occurs a rise in blood pressure
