 DISORDERS OF LYMPH AND LYMPHATIC SYSTEM 

Oedema::

It is a condition which represents excessive water and sodium retention in the extracellular spaces usually it is due to abnormal renal excretion but it can also be caused by cardiac and hepatic disorders or severe anaemia vitamin B deiciency (wet Beri-beri) hypo proteinaemia or some allergic conditions 

Lymphangitis::

It is an acute inflammation of the smaller lymphatics caused by microbial infection 

Lymphangiectasis::

It is the condition resulting from obstruction of the large lymph vessels Filaria sanguinis a disease transmitted by the bite of a culex male mosquito bite of mosquito produces lymphostasis and this results in inflammation of the skin and subcutaneous tissues producing solid edema in limbs called Elephantitis 

Hodgkins Disease::

It is a disease characterised by painless progressive enlargement of lymph nodes usually beginning in one group and spreading on to other group and associated with hyperplasia of lymphoid tissue in spleen liver and other organs in other words it is the malignant type of neoplasm(cancer) of lymph nodes 

Lymphosarcoma::

It is a malignant tumour disease arising in different parts of the lymphatic system locally malignant and invading neighbouring structure and later spreading by the lymphatics to give rise to metastasis that is secondaries in distant organs 

Ascites::

It is collection of free fluid in the peritoneal cavity of the abdomen it results from diseases like tuberculosis or cancer in the abdomen often cirrhosis of the liver is the cause as is congestive cardiac failure (CCF) kidney diseases nephritis severe anaemia hypoproteinaemia etc the domeshaped fluid filled abdomen is generally due to accumulated fluid caused by congestion inflammation or obstruction the abnormal fluid may be a transudate or an exudate 
    pleuristic effusion pericarditis with effusion hydrocoele in men and ovarian cyst in women etc are also localised abnormal fluid accumulations they would be introduced along with their respective chapters
