AUTACOIDS::
Autacoids are those naturally occurring substances that produce astonishingly wide range of pharmacological actions in vanishingly small amounts they were also termed as local hormones since they are produced locally in response to some stimulus (e.g. during inflammation ) the term autacoid is derived from auto= self and akos means remedy or medicinal agent
Chemically autacoids may be grouped into three::
1.Endogenous amines
e.g Histamine
5-Hydroxytryptamine (serotonin)
2.polypeptides
e.g Bradykinin
Kinins
kallidin
Atrial Natriuretic factor
Vasoactive intestinal peptide
substance p. neurotensin
