Factors Affecting Coronary Flow::
Blood flow to the coronary vessels is continuous both during systole and diastole with the onset of isometric contraction (see cardiac cycle) there is sharp fall in coronary blood flow as at this point aortic pressure is the lowest With the onset of rapid ejection period there is rise in aortic pressure and hence coronary blood flow is also the highest during this phase the quantity of flow varies directly with the work done by the heart and aortic pressure the flow is adjusted by changes in the lumen of the vessel and by adjustment in the aortic pressure which is its driving force
Large number of factors affect the coronary blood flow such as autonomic nervous system its transmitters noradrenaline and acetylcholine chemoreceptors hormones ions in the circulating blood anaemia hypoxia blood pressure cardiac output emotional excitement and shock Exercise is also an important factor for increasing coronary blood flow
