HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

THE RETICULO ENDOTHELIAL SYSTEM (RES)

RES is a unique type of system composed of organs which are not interconnected structurally but are interconnected functionally i.e perform similar functions this system consists of the fixed and wandering cells
        The fixed RES cells are tissue histiocytes the reticulum cells in spleen the endothelial cells in liver called kupffer cells and microglia cells in CNS
    The wandering RES cells are the wandering histiocytes called macrophages monocytes in the blood and abnormal foreign cells

    Functions::

    The RES cells have multiple and varied functions
1.phagocytosis: Devours the germs and defends us against infective diseases
2.Formation of new RBC and WBC and construction of old RBC and WBC RBCs also aid repairs by forming fibroblast
3. Manufacture of plasma proteins and bile pigments
4. Formation of antibodies for the body defence
5. Scavengering of microbes debris and foreign bodies
