HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

         CARDIAC DISORDERS

Angina Pectoris ::

It is a clinical syndrome due to myocardial ischaemia producing a sensation of precardial chest pain discomfort pressure or a strangling sensation characteristically precipitated by exertion

Myocardial Infarction ::

It is an ischaemic type of myocardial necrosis usually resulting from abrupt reduction in the coronary blood flow to the segment of the myocardium it suplies clinically the picture is similar to the angina pectoris but it is more intense and prolonged the pain is the warning cry of a hungry heart for oxygen

Congestive Cardiac Failure (CCF) ::

It is a clinical syndrome of progressive breathlessness on accustomed exertion in which the heart fails to maintain an adequate cardiac output resulting in diminished blood flow to the tissues and congestion in the pulmonary and /or the systemic circulation in CCF the force of myocardial contraction is decreased it is the story of congestive stagnation of circulation everywhere producing oedema and enlargement of organs thus decreasing their efficiency

Heart Failure::

It refers to that condition in which the heart is unable to function adequately to supply the metabolic needs of peripheral tissues Heart failure may be classified according to whether primary dysfunction occurs in the left or right ventricle left ventricular failure is very common as primary failure and can occur due to hypertension ischaemic heart disease etc Right ventricular failure may be due to right ventricular infarction but more common cause of right ventricular failure is left ventricular failure
