absorption of digested food material take place mainly through (1) gastric mucosa (2) mucosa at small intestine and (3) colon water Nacl glucose alcohol drugs and Vit B12 are absorbed from gastric mucosa aminoacids monosaccharides (simple sugars) glycerol and fatty acids are absorbed from jejunum and ileum water soluble vitamins are absorbed from intestine from colon some ions water etc are also absorbed the sites of absorption for various substances has been shown
The ileum has specially been modified to perform this function as mentioned before it consists of villi and microvilli that increase the absorbing surface area in addition it also consists of lacteals for the absorption of fatty acids and glycerol
