HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

 PANCREAS::

Anatomy:It is a mixed type of gland consisting of two parts the exocrine and the endocrine part It is situated transversely on the posterior upper abdominal wall it has a head body and a tail the head is to the right in the concavity of the c-shaped duodenum and the tail reaches the left side to touch the spleen 
  The exocrine part of pancreas is made up of lobules which are full of secretory cells and secrete the pancreatic juice this is carried by the pancreatic duct which runs lengthwise and opens into the duodenum along with the bile duct coming from the gall bladder as a common bile duct the pancreatic juice contains digestive enzymes which help in digestion of carbohydrates proteins and fats

        The endocrine part consists of islets of langerhans which consists of a and b -cells these cells secrete glucagon and insulin respectively Both these hormones help to maintain normal blood sugar level deficiency of insulin produces a disease called diabetes mellitus
