HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

 PHYSIOLOGY OF THE LIVER::(PART03)

7.Store House::

The liver stores glycogen vitamins (B1 B6 B12 A K Folic acid etc) minerals (iron copper) fats etc

8.Heat Regulation::

Biosynthesis of various substances in the liver produces a large quantity of heat thus the liver also contribute towards heat regulation

9. Detoxication::

a .many drugs such as nicotine sulphonamides strychnine etc are metabolized by microsomal enzymes in the liver
b. Conjugation i.e combining various exogenous and endogenous substances with other endogenous substances to make them harmless or atleast less harmful is done in liver
c. Fixation and then excretion of toxic substances

10. Protection of the body as a whole::

Reticulo endothelial cells (Kupfer cells) manufacture antibodies in the liver these antibodies are in the form of agglutinins precipitins bacteriolysins and haptenes They protect the body against microbial invasion by the various processes like agglutination precipitation bacteriolysis etc respectively the kupfer cells of RES also devour mocrobes as well as foreign bodies from circulation by the process of phagocytosis

11.Excretion::

a.Heavy metals which are toxic in nature are fixed by the liver and finally excreted through the bile via gall bladder
b.Microbes and their toxins are exerted by bile e.g typhoid bacteria are excreted through the bile
