GALL BLADDER

ANATOMY::Gall bladder is a sac like structure which serves as the reservoir of bile it is placed anteriorly under the liver and on its right abdominal surface it opens through the duct cystic duct which is joined by the common hepatic duct to form the bile duct the duct carries the bile juice and opens jointly with the pancreatic duct in the duodenum there is a sphinctre at its opening it contracts under the influence of cholecystokinin (gastrointestinal hormone) and the autonomic nervous systems Both juices (the bile and pancreatic) are poured simultaneously into the duodenum to digest the food this is an economical device of nature 
                The gall bladder is the main sac for storage of bile it carries out number of functions as follows:
1. It acts as a resservoir of bile 
2. It concentrates bile and helps in absorption of water and inorganic salts it concentrates the bile About             10.cc of liver bile is concentrated to1cc of gall bladder bile 
3. It secretes mucus and excretes cholesterol 
4. It maintains pressure in the billiary tract
