HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

 Bile Juice::

Bile is a secretory as well as an excretory products of the liver common bile duct takes the bile juice to duodenum bile is continuously synthesised in the liver but entry of bile takes place only after ingestion of food
        It is a complete fluid which contains many substances but no enzyme It is yellowish green in colour it contains inorganic salts namely chlorides carbonates and phosphates of sodium potassium and calcium it contains bile salts named sodium taurocholate and sodium glycocholate it also contains bile pigments bilirubin and biliverdin as well as cholesterol and lecithin

            Functions :

Bile is very useful for health Though it does not contain any enzyme it indirectly help in digestion and absorption as follows:
1. Fat Digestion : It helps in complete digestion of fats by reducing surface tension it activates the enzyme lipase it is also a good solvent for fats and fat splitting enzymes bile aids the absorption of fats carbohydrates and proteins
2.Absorption: bile salts help in the absorption of various substances namely fats iron calcium and           vitamins    A,D,E and K- the fat soluble vitamins
3.Laxative Action: Bile stimulates peristalsis and produces laxative action
4.Buffer Action: bile contains mucin which acts as a buffer
5.Excretion: Some heavy metals toxins bacteria cholesterol and lecithin are excreted by the bile
6.Optimum pH: By maintaining suitable pH it helps the action of all the enzymes
7.Cholagogue:Bile stimulates biliary secretion this is known as cholagogue action
8.Secretogogue:Bile stimulates secretin a local hormone which stimulates the pancreatic billary and intestinal secretion
