NICOTINIC ACID::

 Chemistry :Chemically it is the amide of nicotinic acid it is called niacin and its amide as nicotinamide Nicotinamide is the active from of nicotinic acid which acts in the body it is water soluble and partially thermostable 

Source::

Husk (pericarp) of cereals pulses peas beans tomatoes etc and the whole wheat contain nicotinic acid Milk liver meat fish etc also contain this vitamin 

Functions::

Niacin is an essential component of co enzyme (NAD) concerned with energy releasing reaction in lipid metabolism it inhibits production of cholesterol and assists in fat break down 

Deficiency::

Pellagra is a nicotinic acid deficiency disease it is characterized by dermatitis diarrhoea and psychological disturbances skin becomes reddish brown dry and scaly The disturbances of the gastrointestinal system develop resulting in indigestion and diarrhoea Dementia a mental disorder and other nervous disorders follow due to pellagra Death is not noticed due to nicotinamide deficiency
