Functions::
Vit B6 is useful for good health in animals however if has been proved essential
1.It has a role in tryptophan metabolism
2.It helps in synthesizing fats from carbohydrates and proteins
3.It aids in polyunsaturated fatty acid formation
4.It acts as a co-carboxylase in decarboxylation of some essential amino acids
5.It serves as prosthetic group to transaminases
Deficiency::
In rats and dogs acrodynia (dermatitis) degeneration of nerves retardation of growth failure to reproduce and anaemia have been observed as the signs of its deficiency Recently it has been found to help patients sufferings from beri beri and pellagra to cure their insomnia and certain nervous discorders EEG changes in Vitamin B6 deficiency are corrected by giving Vitamin B6 In short though not proved it has a bearing on the health of the nervous systems
