 Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)::

Chemistry it is a flavone a highly yellow coloured substance 
Source :Milk yeast egg muscle kidney and liver are good sources whole gram products peas beets and green vegetables also contain Vitamin B2 Small amount is also supplied by gastro intestinal tract 

Functions::

1. It is essential for the body growth 
2.It plays a vital role in intracellular respiration for oxidation reduction systems by acting as a hydrogen acceptor
 3. It regulates the hormones concerned with carbohydrate metabolism 
4.It helps the retina to transfer light stimuli into nerve stimuli 
5. It plays some part in protein metabolism 
6. It also helps in maintenance of health of the mouth skin eyes and mucosa of intestine 

Deficiency ::

Skin and eyes are the targets of its deficiency cheilosis or cheilitis i.e swellings and fissures on the lips the cornea and glossitis i.e swelling of the tongue are the classical deficiency signs Eyes may develop light sensitivity (photophobia) opacities (cataracts) and redness of capillaries round the cornea (corneal ulcers) Skin becomes dry hair fall off and growth is retarded All these deficiencies are named as Ariboflavinosis
