HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY CARDIAC RESUSCITATION

 CARDIAC RESUSCITATION

Many a times cardiac activity is ceased alongwith the stopage of respiration in such cases Cardiac resuscitation (external heart massage alongwith artificial respiration) may turn out to be a life saving if performed within 3-5 minutes

fig cardiac Resuscitation

External heart massage is rhythmic compression of the heart between the sternum and the spine blood is squeezed out from the left ventricle into the aorta and flows from in throughout the body when the pressure on the sternum is released the heart cavities are filled again with blood The pressure should be sufficient to push the sternum 4-5 cm downwards towards the spine and the rate of compressions should be atleast 50 to 70 per minute cardiac resuscitation must be done alongwith artificial respiration
