HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

HYPOTHALAMUS :::

It is a part  of fore -brain situated below the thalamus It is the most important co-ordinating center for motor control of visceral activity it is connected with mid - brain and receives fibres from thalamus basal nuclei olfactory and other regions of cerebral cortex functions of hypothalamus are as follows :

(1) Hypothalamus is the highest control for autonomic nervous system 
(2) It is one of the reflex centres for the control of emotional changes 
(3) Sleep centres are present in hypothalamus hence it controls sleep as well as wakefulness 
(4) regulation of body temperature through autonomic effects involving respiration and circulation 
(5) Control of hunger feeding obesity and thirst 
(6) Control of gastric acid secretion 
(7) Control sexual behaviour 
(8) Secretion of posterior pituitary hormones 
(9) Regulation of anterior pituitary hormone secretion through the releasing factors
