HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

 Learning and Memory :::

Learning and memory are the characteristic attributes of higher animals and human being They are assumed to be the function of cerebral -cortex Learning is however possible in lower animals also where cortex is absent
                    Memory may be of two types ::
1.primary or short term memory and secondary or long term memory For short term memory there is small capacity It gets lost within a few seconds This type of memory is usually stored as words Primary memory is thought to be represented in the nervous system by circulating nerve impulses
2.Secondary or long term memory has large capacity longer duration and has better organisation Certain things are represented for years together Secondary type of memory is possibly represented for years together Secondary type of memory is possibly represented in actual structure of pattern of the central nervous system Limbic system is primarily involved in memory memory is also selective

                                    Pain ::

pain is a major protective mechanism giving warining to the body that something is wrong and hence one can take measures to correct the difficulty
Impulses for pain receptors are relayed through dorsal root of spinal ganglia to the substantia gelatinosa of the spinal cord from here impulses reach thalamus through spinothalamic tracts passing via medulla oblongata from the thalamus they finally reach the cerebral cortex for the pain to be perceived the brain must be normally functioning
