DISORDERS OF NERVOUS SYSTEM  :;

Narcolepsy :: 

It is a syndrome characterised by the tendency to fall asleep spontaneously even during the day time inspite of adequate night sleep There is sudden development of muscle weakness 

Neuralgia ::

It is a condition of acute pain in the area supplied by some particular nerve 

Neuritis ::

It is a condition of inflammatory changes in one or more nerves as a result of mechanical damage metabolic disturbance or some toxic agent affecting the nerve Peripheral neuritis affects the sensory nerves whereas the polyneuritis affects both the sensory and motor nerves synonymus with multiple peripheral neuritis 

Delirium ::

It is the state of confusion caused by interference with metabolic processes in the brain The patients may be disoriented as to time place or person He may have illusions and hallucinations 

Epilepsy : 

It is a chronic CNS disorder of organic nature characterised by brief episodes of seizures it is usually associated with loss of consciousness aura and cry There is always an abnormal and excessive EEG discharge Usually but not always there are violent spasmodic contractions of skeletal muscles and autonomic hyperactivity 

Convulsions ::

It is violent spasmodic contractions of skeletal muscles 

Schizophrenia ::

It is functional disorder of split personality characterised by disturbed thinking emotional withdrawal from the surroundings It is often associated with delusions and auditory hallucinations 

Mania ::

It is the functional disorder characterised by abnormal emotion and mood There are alternative excitement severe depression and autonomic changes like anorexia insomnia etc 

Parkinsonism ::

It is a chronic neurological disorder characterised by akinesia rigidity and tremors In akinesia there is defective motor initiation and rapid fatiguability Tremors mean rhythmic involunatry movements of limbs or other parts 

Hemiplegia ::

It is the paralysis of one side of the body usually resulting from a cerebro-vascular thrombus embolus or haemorrhage affecting the opposite side The degeneration of arteries may give rise to thrombus within Haemorrhage in the brain produces high BP or accident and is often fatal
