ASCENDING TRACTS ::
These are the sensory tracts which carry the impulses of pain touch temperature pressure vibration position and movements of various parts of the body fullness of bladder and various types of visceral sensations There are four major ascending tracts that relay the information to the brain
1.Fasciculus Gracilis and Fasciculus Cuneatus ::These tracts arise from the spinal root ganglia and ascend via medulla oblongata and thalamus to be finally relayed to cerebral cortex they carry the messages concerned with the sensations of movement touch and pressure
2.Spinothalamic tracts :: These tracts arise from anterior lateral parts of the spinal cord and ascend to the thalamus via the brain stem and mid brain they carry impulses concerned with touch pressure pain and temperature
3.Spinocerebellar tracts :: These tracts arise from the spinal cord and terminate in the cerebellum they relay kinesthetic muscle sensory information needed for the maintenance of posture co-ordination and balance
4.Spinotectal tracts ::These tracts arise from the spinal cord and terminate in the tectum They carry the impulses involved in the sensations of touch pain and temperature conveying auditory visual and other reflexes
