HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

 Functions of the Ovary ::

(1) Formation maturation and liberation of the ovum from ovary of either side alternately every month 
(2) Secretion of hormones Ovarian hormones produced during different phases of menstruation are :
(a) Oestrogen secreted by the Graffian follicles (b) progesterone is secreted by corpora -lutea which develops from the wall of the graffian follicle after its rupture and liberation of ovum (c) relaxin and (d) androgen The first two hormones (a) and (b) are of major interest 


        Ovarian hormones play an important role in womans life such as : (1) Development of sex organs 
(2) Menstrual cycle (MC) Changes (3) Puberty changes or secondary sex characters changes i.e. growth of breasts feminine hair gait and emotions (4) Pregnancy with its impregnation of placenta and foetus and (5) The development of breasts Birth of the baby is controlled partly by oxytocin of posterior pituitary gland and relaxin hormone of the ovary
