HUMAN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY

DISORDERS RELATED TO PANCREAS DYSFUNCTION ::

Hypoglycaemia ::

Increased secretion of insulin causes severe hypoglycemia Normal blood sugar level ranges from 80 to 120 mg % If blood sugar level falls below 70 or 50 mg % symptoms of hypoglycemia appear They are :
(1) A feeling of fatigue weakness and hunger
(2) Extreme anxiety and irritability
(3) A bnormal behaviour
(4) Tremors
        Later on vasomotor disturbances such as flushing and perspiration may start Finally the patient may manifest convulsions or coma

                                        Diabetes - mellitus ::

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic endocrine disorder characterized by deranged secretion of insulin and /or glucagon with extensive disturbances of carbohydrate protein and lipid metabolism There is generalized thickening of capillary basement membranes throughout the body mainly due to hyperglycaemia Long term complications include cataract (eye) nephropathy (kidney ) neuropathy (peripheral nervous system ) atherosclerosis and cardiomyopathy (cardiovascular system )
    Symptoms of diabetes mellitus can be sumarized in all the symptoms are mainly consequences of decreased insulin secretion

EFFECTS OF INSULIN ON CARBOHYDRATE

PROTEIN AND FAT METABOLISM
