SPREAD AND PREVENTION OF INFECTION ::
Hygiene is the term which refers to health education It is a sister concern of physiology and is closely related to medicine It tells how the body is affected by various environmental factors living and insert and how one should protect against adverse conditions like wind and weather alongwith infections and how one should maintain own health and health of the community
The term disease indicates uneasiness to the body Scientifically it means abnormal functioning of various organs This can occur due to ::
1.Malnutrition e.g.Kwashiorkar syndrome anaemia beriberi scurvy etc
2.Hypofunctioning of endocrine glands eg. dwarfism myxoedema myxoedema goitre diabetes mellitus etc or hyperfunctioning of endocrine glands e.g. gigantism Cushing s syndrome etc
3.Degeneration of certain organs eg. wilson s disease subacute combined degeneration of the spinal -cord etc
4.Allergic conditions eg.allergic asthma skin rash etc
5.Development of tumors i.e the abnormal mass of a tissue the growth of which is extreme and unco ordinated and persists even after the cessation of the stimulus which has caused it e.g. cancer lymphosarcoma leukaemia etc
6.Congenital abnormalities e.g. Foramen ovale in the heart cystic kidney etc
7.Infection i.e. the invasion of microbes e.g. pneumonia by pneumococci cholera by Vibrio coma etc Infection is important because it may affect the community as a whole
