Inherited diseases ::

There are approximately 1500 genetic diseases many of which are uncommon These are the diseases produced due to defective genetic inheritance Diseases due to non disjunction of chromosomes have already been described Some diseases occur due to change in genetic structure (mutation) Diseases such as phenylketonuria (improper metabolism of essential amino acids ) cystic fibrosis galactosemia (error in carbohydrate metabolism ) etc are common inherited diseases Besides these there are some diseases which are found linked with sex chromosomes in such cases females are usually the carriers but males are usually the sufferers Haemophilia (defect in coagulation of blood ) colour blindness (defect in red and green colour identification ) albinism (abnormal whiteness as lack of pigmentation of the skin and hair ) achondorplasia (dwarfism large head ) Syndactyl (webbed fingers and toes ) etc are the examples of such diseases
