Whooping Cough or pertussis ::
It is caused by Bacillus pertussis The indrawing breath and wretching cough are the characteristics of this disease It is often associated with protruded tongue blood in phlegm and vomiting These bacteria cause damage to trachea bronchi lungs etc The phelgm and sputum are highly infective
Smallpox ::
It is an infections disease characterised by fever chills headache and backache A skin eruption appears after decrease in body temperature which later on turns into papule vesicle pustule crusts and scabs The scabs fall off after third week The eruption first appears on face and then on fore arms wrists and hands Smallpox is caused by Variolamajor in India and Variola minor in America Both are filtrable viruses and they are present in the secretions of mouth nose and skin eruption of the patient They later form crusts which shed off All these are highly infectious It is transmitted in early catarrh stage when it is not diagnosed Transmission is through secretions and eruptions Vaccination programme has been successful against smallpox
Chickenpox ::
It is also an infectious disease with slight fever and rash It occurs mostly in children The rash is found more on the trunk The orderly sequence of small pox is absent This infection is caused by filtrable virus The virus is transmitted by droplet infection air eruption crusts or by personal contact
Measles ::
It is a highly communicable infectious disease affecting children its symptoms are sneezing coughing running of nose and eyes fever and eruption it is a viral infection Infected eyes with congested flushed face and wretching cough with high fever are also observed Rash comes on the third or the fourth day like prickly heat Fever abates on eruption of the rash
