TETANUS ::
It is a disease caused by bacteria Clostridium tetani These bacteria are highly resistant and found especially in anaerobic medium They are found in the intestinal tracts of horse and other cattles The bacteria enter through wounds it soon affects CNS and causes tonic convulsions spasm of neck muscles opisthotonus and finally death from asphyxia
Cleaning of wounds with hydrogen peroxide is the first aid prophylaxis to prevent tentanus Incubation period of tetanus bacteria is longer in man Hence patients can successfully be immunized against the infection it is advisable to get passive vaccination by anti tetanus serum (ATS) IF one gets wounds of very septic nature after testing dermal sensitivity test Tetanus toxoid vaccine must be taken following a wound injury with dust glass rusted metal etc
