WORM INFECTION ::
Worms are triploblastic animals and consist of three parts namely epiblast hypoblast and mesoblast These are mainly divided into three divisions : 1 Nematodes 2.Cestodes and 3.Trematodes
A. NEMATODES :: They are the roundworms threadworms and hookworms having slender bodies There are no segments or appendages on the body They have an alimentary canal with mouth at one end and anus at the other end
1.Roundworm (Ascaris lumbircoid ) :: It is cylindrical and pointed at both the ends It is pinkish grey in colour with a shining surface The adult male is 8-25 cm in length and female is 25-35 cm long The female lays number of eggs and maituration takes a few weeks Eggs are swallowed along with food water milk etc The shell of the egg does not dissolve in acidic medium but dissolves in the intestine The embryo comes out of the egg and then reaches the heart and lung through circulation from lungs they enter the oesophague through trachea and re enter into intestine Meanwhile it develops into adult worm and then lays number of eggs in the intestine
Preventive Measures :: The following instructions should be followed upon to control the spread ::
1.Personal hygiene should be observed wash the hands with soap before taking food and after toilet nails should be trimmed
2.Excreta of the infected patient should be properly disposed off children should not be allowed to go for toilet in the open The soil gets infected with eggs passed out in the stool
3.Vegetables should be washed with potassium permanganate solution and in running water They should be preferably cooked
4.Infected persons should be treated with drugs
5.Toilet should be disinfected
