They are flat and segmented worms They include Taenia solium Taenia saginata Taenia echinococcus T. granulosus etc
Tapeworm ::
The worm consists of a small head a neck and number of segments These worms are generally segmented and are white in colour There is absence of alimentary canal The head of the worm is called scolex it s body is called strobila and each segment is called proglottidis The length of the worm varies from 1-2 cm to 4 meters man is a definitive host for the Taenia saginata and Dibothrocephalus latus and intermediate host for Taenia echinococcus The ripe proglottidis contains uterus They are excreted along with faeces and ova become free when animal eats ova during grazing of grass animal gets the infection pig is the host for taenia sodium and cattle are the host for taenia saginata The shell of the ova dissolves in the intestine and the embryo with its six hooklets is being formed The head of the worm is fixed up to the intestinal wall and adult worm develops in two months
1.Taenia solium :: it is about 3.5 meters long and consists of more than 500 segments There are four suckers in the head Pig is the intermediate host Man gets infection by taking infected meat
2.Taenia saginata :: it is about 3.4 meters long The intermediate host is the cow
3.Dwarftapeworm :: it is about 5-40 cm long Each segment contains 100 to 200 eggs which pass into intestine These worms develop from the eggs There is no intermediary host
Preventive Measures :: we should observe some rules to check the spread of the disease like
1.Infected persons should be treated with drugs
2.Meat examinations should be carried out by veterinary doctors
3.Meat and fish should be well-cooked
4.Raw meat should not be taken it can be eaten raw after salting But it is best to cook the meat
5.Human excreta should be disposed of in such a way that animals do not get infection
