Malthus view is that prosperity of a nation grows by arithmetical proportion whereas the nation s population grows by algebric proportion Hence unless we check the ever increasing population we cannot prosper however progressive we may be family planning is an important practical approach to this vital problem
Malthus firmly believed that war would be eminent if population rise is not checked Alternatively world would be in a grip of grinding poverty and dreadful diseases of endemic epidemic and pandemic magnitude To add to this unemployment will follow and this would lead to famine riots confusion and chaos in the world we can combat all the likely dangers in this new technological era by modern methods of approach provided we control the growing population Thus family planning forms the key stone to human survival its progress and prosperity
METHODS OF BIRTH CONTROL
Contraceptives prevent conception if there is no conception then there is no impregnation and therefore no birth of a baby So preventing conception is an ideal modern method to control the growth of birth rate
Natural Control-A Failure ::
Natural control of reproduction i.e.celibacy is next to impossible Sex is an instinctive call of the flesh it can be tempered but not stopped Therefore one must be free to satisfy the instinctive urge in a disciplined manner by natural control or resorting to the family planning methods when someone wants to procreate he can give up the family planning appliances temporarily and restart with it when necessary

It should be 1.foolproof i.e 100% effective 2.simple 3.Harmless 4.Acceptable and 5.Inexpensive An ideal contraceptive which is perfect is yet to be manufactured The contraceptive methods can be discussed under following heads :;
A.Control of sexual intercourse : No contact no conception
B.Barrier to the entry of spermatozoa mechanically
C. Use of spermicidal agents and other chemical methods
D. Intra Uterine Devices Mechanical obstruction eg.loop
E. Surgical methods : stop the passage of fallopian tubes in females and vas deferens in males

F. Pharmacological approach :: Hormonal Pills orally
