 VARIOUS ROUTES OF BIOTRANSFORMATION OF DRUGS

Oxidation of drugs ::

This is the most common pathway of metabolism of drugs It can occur by
microsomal enzymes or non-microsomal enzymes There are several drugs that undergo microsomal oxidation Various forms of microsomal oxidation are given with
The non - microsomal oxidation occurs for alcohols and aldehydes Some of the non microsomal oxidation are given

Factors affecting biotransformation of drugs ::

1.Dose and Frequency of administration of drugs
2.Species and strain eg. some patients are slow acetylators whereas some are fast acetylators
3.Age eg children have lesser quantities of enzymes
4.Time of administration of drug eg. aspirin biavailability is different timings
5.Enzyme induction and inhibition
6.Hepatic blood circulation
7.Liver disease
8.Pregnancy
