PHARMACOLOGY

 NON-COMPETITIVE ANTAGONISM ::

If the brinding of the anatagonist is irreversible or non specific (i.e. the site of action is different ) then the antagonism is known as non -competitive The characteristics are : 

1.The maximum response cannot be attained by increasing the dose of the agonist 

2.The slope of curve is changed 

3.There is no parallel shift of dose -response curve 

4.The maximum response is decreased on increasing the dose of antagonist 

Examples :: Phenoxybenzamine and Noradrenaline :

(Binds irreversibly to the receptor ) 

Papaverine and Acetycholine :

(Papaverine acts at different level)
