 REGULATION OF DNA TRANSCRIPTION AND HENCE OF PROTEIN SYNTHESIS ::

This type of receptor mediated effect is character of steroid hormones such as corticosteroids mineralocorticoids sexsteroids vit D and thyroid hormone All these drugs are sufficiently lipid soluble to cross the plasma membrane and act on intracellular receptors Stimulation of these receptors stimulate transcription of genes in the nucleus by binding to specific DNA Sequences near the gene whose expression is to be regulated The intracellular receptors are usually located on the nucleus 
    The characteristic of such receptor action is that the action persists for a longer time from hours to days
